Pacific Airshow Returns To Huntington Beach After 1-Year Hiatus
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA) - Parachuters lit up the Huntington Beach night sky as Sammy Hagar performed in front of thousands at a special concert to kick off the weekend at the Pacific Airshow.
After nearly a decade since Huntington Beach allowed live music on the sand and a seemingly unending pandemic, Sammy Hagar and the first Pacific Airshow since 2019 were just what the city needed.
"I feel like I haven't been out in 18 months," said Monnett Porsche. "They opened the gate and released the kraken."
Earlier in the day, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels roared through the sky for rehearsals that thrilled thousands below. This weekend for just the second time in history, the Thunderbirds, the Blue Angels and the Canadian Forces Blue Angels will perform at the same airshow.
"I was down there today just checking it out and it was just amazing to see everybody having so much fun," Tom Bock, owner of Pedego Electric Bikes Huntington Beach.
Despite Bock being glad that the Pacific Airshow is back, he says isn't really good for business.
"It hurts our business a little bit just because people aren't coming in to buy bikes because of all the traffic," says Bock. "I've lived in Huntington Beach almost my entire life and this is about community."
Meanwhile across the street at The Blow Down Blow Dry Bar, employees are preparing for a packed weekend.
"It draws a lot of attention, obviously, but at the same time, most of our clients that we have booked for tomorrow on Saturday won't be able to make it because it's just so busy," said employee Samantha Westland.
8,000 tickets pre-sold tickets were purchased for Friday's performance and there are more tickets available for another show on Saturday night. The Pacific Airshow will continue from 10:30am to 4:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. More information can be found on the Pacific Airshow's Official Website.
