Overturned Big Rig Shuts Down I-5 Transition In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — The California Highway Patrol says the transition road from westbound Interstate 10 to southbound Interstate 5 near downtown Los Angeles will be closed for several hours after a big rig overturned.

Traffic backed up for miles Monday morning at the scene of the crash in the Boyle Heights area.

A hazardous-materials team has been sent to clean up some fuel that spilled from the truck's fuel tanks, and crews are working to repair damaged guard rails.

There are no reports of injuries, and one person "self-extricated" from the wreck, according to the CHP.

The CHP says the transition road could remain closed until at least 5 p.m. for the hazmat cleanup.
