Orange County Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Abducting Her Twins

IRVINE (AP) — An Orange County woman has been arrested on suspicion of abducting her 8-year-old twins from the legal custody of the children's father and trying to take them out of the country.

Police in Irvine describe Shahrzad Talieh as having deteriorating mental health and possible substance abuse problems.

Investigators say Talieh had surreptitiously taken the children's passports from their father's house, and went to Los Angeles International Airport to get airplane tickets to Copenhagen.

When she was unable to get on a flight, Talieh took the kids to a friend's home in Canoga Park, where police tracked her down early Saturday.

City News Service reported the twins — a boy and a girl — were returned to their father, their legal custodian.

It wasn't immediately known if Talieh has a lawyer.
