Orange County Cyclists Take To PCH To Remember Fallen Riders
LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Cyclists took to Pacific Coast Highway on Sunday morning for a ride to remember two of their friends who died in the past year in crashes with motor vehicles on the busy beach route.
Sunday's ride was in memory of John Colvin, who was struck by a car last month while training for his first Ironman Triathalon, and Debra Deem, who was killed in nearly the same spot in a crash last August while on her daily ride from home to Corona del Mar, according to organizers.
Following a short invocation, the cyclists started their trek in Laguna Beach on Sunday morning and traveled toward Newport Beach, retracing Colvin and Deem's last rides.
Organizers said one of the goals of the ride was to raise the profile of cyclists in the eyes and minds of motorists.
