Elderly Man Shot To Death, Another Injured In Shooting At Encino Home
ENCINO (CBSLA) - A man in his 80s was shot to death and a man in his 60s was pistol-whipped Wednesday night in Encino.
Authorities originally believed the incident was a home invasion, but have since said it doesn't appear that's the case, though it's unclear why the two victims may have been targeted and if anything was actually taken from the home.
Stuart Herman of Encino died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, and his brother was beaten after the pair returned home from the grocery store.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were sent at about 5:25 p.m. to a home in the 4500 block of Densmore Avenue, near the 405 Freeway, on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to a department statement.
The suspects involved in the incident fled the scene, possibly in a white SUV, and are still at-large.
Police said that according to a preliminary investigation it appears that this might not be the first crime committed by the suspects, due to the level of violence.
"No one starts out with this type of behavior, typically," LAPD Detective Sharon Kim told reporters at the scene.
A description of the suspects was not immediately available.
