Two killed after DUI, pursuit suspect crashes into another car, home in Rialto
One person is dead after a pursuit with officers led to a crash into a home in San Bernardino County.
The pursuit started around 1 a.m. Saturday in Colton when a car almost hit a Colton police cruiser, officers said.
Authorities suspect that the driver, now identified as 24-year-old Alejandro Canchola of San Bernardino, was under the influence at the time of the pursuit.
Officers chased the suspect for a while, as the suspect led them through along the westbound I-10 Freeway through Fontana and surrounding areas, ending at the intersection of Cedar and Randall Avenues in Rialto.
The vehicle then ran a red light, crashing into another uninvolved car before colliding with a house in the area.
The two occupants of the uninvolved vehicle died at a nearby hospital as a result of the crash.
They have been identified as Aaron McDonald, 31, and Irene Jaramillo, 30.
Both Canchola and a passenger in his vehicle, Jose Castrocota, 21, were taken to a hospital for treatment on what are said to be moderate injuries.
As soon as Canchola is released from the care of the hospital, he is expected to be booked at a San Bernardino County jail for murder.
Nobody in the house was hurt, though the structure of the building was severely damaged and considered unstable.
"This is very unsafe," said Armando Fuentes, one of the workers on the scene surveying the structural integrity of the home. "Who knows? Maybe tomorrow the whole front could collapse."
A 14-foot palm tree and the outdoor patio of the home were completely wiped out by the oncoming vehicle as well.
Though they had just moved in six months ago, the Reyes family suddenly finds themselves displaced once again.
"It's just very unfortunate," said one of the family members. "It's very inconvenient."
