Olympic medals stolen from Orange County home

Orange County deputies are searching for Olympic medals stolen from an Orange County home in October.

"We are heartbroken for our athlete and her family," USA Volleyball officials wrote in a statement. "We hope the medals and other stolen items will be recovered soon."

According to investigators, the gold, silver and bronze medals were stolen from a home on the 25000 block of Black Horse Lane in Laguna Hills. Deputies said that the medals were being temporarily stored at the home.

The athlete, who played for the US Women's Volleyball team, competed in the last three Olympic Games in 2012, 2016 and 2020.

The Olympic Women's Volleyball coach Karch Kiraly is once again pleading with whoever stole his former player's medals to return them.

OC Sheriff's Department

"You think of someone who steals a bag of stuff and they find a medal inside, well what can they do with it," said Kiraly. "They can't do anything because as soon as they try to sell it to somebody else it gives away a lot of information. So, it's either hang on to it for 100 years or throw it away — or maybe turn it in to help a rockstar person who has been a rockstar volleyball player."

In July, another Olympic volleyball player, Jordyn Poulter had her gold medal stolen after someone broke into her car in Anaheim. It was eventually returned.

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Department at (949) 425-1900.

"That's pretty identifiable so obviously if everyone knows about it the more eyes the better we'll catch the people, hopefully," said nearby resident Mary Spitz.
