Pursuit Suspects Arrested Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Anaheim
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Two armed men were in custody Wednesday after leading authorities on a chase through Orange County, which ended in an officer-involved shooting.
The incident unfolded just before 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of W. Neighbors Ave when officers responded for report of an assault involving a firearm, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
Upon their arrival, an adult man told authorities he was physically assaulted and taken against his will by two men and a woman, who were armed with a knife, a handgun and a club.
About five hours later, police witnessed the male suspects -- 25-year-old Frank Velasquez, of Anaheim, and 20-year-old Alan-Osvaldo Reza-Palamino, of Anaheim -- entering a vehicle driven by another man.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a slow pursuit ensued.
The chase ended at the intersection of La Palma and Mohican avenues.
According to police, Reza-Palamino ran from the car and led officers on a foot pursuit. During the chase, an officer-involved shooting occurred and he was struck by gunfire.
Paramedics transported Reza-Palamino to a hospital in critical condition. He will be booked on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, possession of a concealed firearm by a gang member and gang enhancements.
Velasquez will be booked on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements.
Reza-Palamino and Velasquez are being held on $500,000 bail each.
At this time, authorities are searching for the woman involved in the crime.
Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene.
The driver's involvement in the case remains under investigation.
