Off-Duty, Probationary LAPD Officer Sought In Pomona Shooting Death
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — An off-duty, probationary Los Angeles Police Department officer has been identified as a person of interest in Friday's fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Ontario man in Pomona, authorities said Saturday night.
LAPD officer Henry Solis, 27, has not been seen since the slaying occurred about 3:30 a.m.Friday near Third and Main streets, Pomona police said.
The shooting occurred after Solis got into a fistfight with Salome Rodriguez Jr., Pomona police said. Rodriguez later died at an area hospital.
LAPD officials said Solis has not show up to work since the shooting. An LAPD spokesman said Solis has worked for the Police Department since June 2014, and has been "an unremarkable employee."
"We're always concerned about the safety and well-being of our employees," the spokesman said. "However, in this case, I think we're more concerned that he has been named a person of interest in a homicide investigation."
A statement from Pomona police notes that "Solis' whereabouts (are) unknown and we have reason to believe that he knows police are looking for him."
Solis is described as a 5-foot-9 Hispanic man weighing 185 pounds. His silver/gray 2013 Volkswagen Jetta has California license plate 7FAS527.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Pomona police detective bureau at 909-620-2085.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez's family has established a GoFundMe page to pay for his funeral expenses.
