O.C. Man To Be Arraigned On Charges Of Murder, Attempted Murder

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a Garden Grove man is expected to be arraigned Friday on charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with the shootings of three people in Santa Ana.

The accused, identified as 23-year-old Dustin Sean Ross McDonald, has been charged with one count of murder with the special circumstance of lying in wait and two felony counts of attempted murder.

The shootings unfolded about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, the Orange County District Attorney's office said in a written statement.

According to the statement, McDonald is accused of arranging to meet with the victims for an alleged drug transaction.

"McDonald is accused of then stepping out of his vehicle, walking around to the front passenger side of the victims' vehicle while armed with a firearm, and firing approximately seven to 10 gunshots," the statement said.

The front passenger, identified as 23-year-old Aaron Chavez, was killed, while a 21-year-old female driver, and 28-year-old female passenger were injured.

McDonald was arrested on Aug. 13, the statement indicated.
