North Hollywood Man Charged In Fatal Subway Stabbing

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A North Hollywood man was charged Tuesday with fatally stabbing a passenger on the Metro Red Line subway.

Angelo Correa, 24, allegedly got into a verbal dispute with a fellow passenger about 9:20 a.m. Jan. 13 while the train was at the Vermont station.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office claims Correa walked away before turning around, walking back and fatally stabbing Jose Velasco, 33.

Correa is charged with one count of murder with the special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a folding knife.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Prosecutors are asking that the defendant's bail be set at $1 million.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigated the case.
