Massive Fire Tears Through Newport Beach Storage Facility

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A massive four-alarm fire tore through a storage facility in Newport Beach Friday, leaving two transients injured.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. and spread to 80 outdoor storage units at 864 Production Place, according the Newport Beach Fire Department.

Boats, vehicles and other personal property were destroyed.

It took about three hours for firefighters to put out the flames.

One man suffered third-degree burns and was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center, Newport Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Boyles said. The other man suffered smoke inhalation and was also transported to a hospital.

One firefighter suffered neck and back injuries when a 200-pound post fell on him, the fire chief added.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
