Man Suffers Severe Leg Injury In Central Park Explosion

NEW YORK (CBSLA.com) — A 19 year old man is in stable condition, after an explosion in Central Park that was heard for blocks.

One witness said it sounded like a cannon.

According to police, the man told friends he stepped on something that exploded.

WCBS 880 reported the victim was with a group of three young men from the Washington, D.C., area.

The victim's friends told police they had no fireworks.

Another witness said the man "was severely injured. His left leg was severely damaged, all bone and muscle."

The victim, who was visiting New York, was reported to be in stable condition and undergoing surgery.

A 19-year-old man suffered a serious injury to his left foot in Central Park on Sunday, police said, and the man's friends told authorities he stepped on something that exploded.

Police sources told CBS News New  York fireworks are being considered as a possible cause of the explosion.
