Former LAPD Employee In Custody After Barricading Herself In Van Nuys Home

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A former Los Angeles Police Department employee was taken into custody Wednesday after barricading herself inside a San Fernando Valley home.

Officials received a domestic violence call around 12:15 a.m. in the 14000 block of Lemay Street in Van Nuys.

When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim's boyfriend, who is an LAPD detective, suffering from minor injuries, according to Capt. Andy Neiman.

The woman, who formally worked in the communications department at the LAPD, refused to cooperate and a standoff ensued.

"We've heard a rumor that there is an AK-47 – that has not been verified at this time, so we are working on that assumption and out of an abundance of caution we are going to move very slowly," Neiman said.

After attempting various tactics, a SWAT team entered the home around 8:50 a.m. The suspect was combative and officers utilized a Taser to help take her into custody.

Offiicals say she was not injured but transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

Officers were called to the same residence Tuesday for a domestic violence incident, but no crime was involved, Neiman said.

Three nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff.
