National Drug Take-Back Day To Be Held Saturday

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Multiple law enforcements agencies this weekend are expected to participate in a nationwide event aimed at encouraging and facilitating the disposal of unwanted, expired, and unused prescription drugs.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement.

The event, hosted by the DEA in conjunction with multiple state and local agencies, was first established in 2010 and has been largely successful in removing potentially dangerous drugs, the statement said.

According to Partnership for a Drug-Free America, about 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time each day, the statement added.

Police said a drop-off location will be available in Pomona in the west parking lot near the main public entrance of the Pomona Police Department at 490 W. Mission Boulevard.

That location, however, will be one of many established across Southern California.
