More Than 1K Volunteers Take Part In LA Works' MLK Day Of Service

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More than a thousand volunteers and community leaders spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day giving back.

A group gathered from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Santee Education Complex to take part in L.A. Works' 10th Annual MLK Day project.

Community members painted educational murals, built new school gardens and landscaped throughout the complex as well as at Frieda Kahlo Continuation High School.

Sponsors for the day included: Northrop Grumman, Target, American Honda Company, Kaiser Permanente and Macy's as well as the Los Angeles Lakers, City of Los Angeles Office of Mayor Garcetti, Jonathan Club and Electric Family.

L.A. Works, a volunteer center for community and corporate service, has spent 24 years providing more than a million hours of service to communities throughout Los Angeles.
