Woman Who Apparently Found Missing Dog Accused Of Taking Off With Pup

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles man sought the community's help Friday after the person who found his missing dog apparently took off with the pup.

Owner Sandy Tung told CBS2's Rachel Kim his dog, Frida, went missing on Dec. 23 from the yard of his home in the 1200 block of Alvira Street near the Carthay Square district.

After posting signs throughout a half-mile radius between Pico and Olympic boulevards, Tung said he received a call Thursday morning from the Animal Medical Center in Van Nuys informing him that Frida had been found and identified after an implanted microchip was scanned.

"My heart was beating so fast, I could hardly contain myself! I let out a big yelp at work that Frida was found and everyone yelled back their congratulations, etc." Tung said in a message posted on the Facebook page of Lost And Found Paws In Los Angeles.

But within minutes, a staff member called Tung back and said the woman who had brought Frida in had left the facility, according to Tung.

"It was almost like two weeks of stress being lifted and then all of a sudden crashing down on you again," Tung said.

Frida, a Bichon Frise/poodle mix, is nearly 9-years-old and weighs around 15 pounds, according to Tung.

Security cameras at the medical center caught photos of the woman, who was described as Caucasian, 5 feet 8 inches tall and approximately 280 pounds with blond hair and dark roots, Tung said.

Even the alleged "dognapper" would be eligible to receive the announced $500 reward if Frida is returned safely, according to Tung.

"If this woman is looking for a reward, we will give her one," he said on Facebook. "Our only hope is to get our lovely pup back."

Anyone with information on Frida or the unidentified woman was asked to call either (323) 932-6325 or (323) 395-8259, or email lostfrida@yahoo.com.
