Minecraft Creator Snags Beverly Hills Mansion For $70M

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com)  —  Swedish billionaire Markus Persson, 35, plunked down $70 million for a 23,000-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion, it was announced Thursday.

On the plus side, it comes furnished.

"Marcus fell in love with the house, its sleek contemporary design and its spectacular panoramic views that sweep from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean," said Katia De Los Reyes, from the John Aaroe Group's Sherman Oaks office. "The fact that the house also was completely furnished in such great style was another major selling point for him."

The $70 million price represents a record for a home sold in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood of Beverly Hills, according to the John Aaroe Group. He paid about $15 million below asking.

Persson is the creator of Minecraft. He sold his company, Mojang, to Microsoft in September for $2.5 billion.

What does Persson get for his $70 million? A lot.

The mega-house (8 bedrooms, 15 baths) features exotic electronics, an automated 54-foot curved glass door in the living room that opens onto an infinity pool with iPad-controlled fountains. And no $70 million home would be complete without vodka and tequila bars, a wall of caramel onyx, an 18-seat tiered screening room, a dining room table that seats 24, a $200,000 candy room and three 90-inch high-definition TV sets.

The 24-seat dining table has Roberto Cavalli-designed place settings at $3,700 each. The living room has 10 chairs designed by Bentley Motors that cost $56,000 a piece.

The comfort doesn't end there -- literally. Each bathroom is equipped with a Neorest toilet at a price of $5,600 each.

Jay Z and Beyonce reportedly toured the home several times with an interest to purchase.

A mansion sold in Los Angeles in March for $102 million. The nation's current highest asking price is a 12-bedroom, 23-bath home in Beverly Hills — and it can be yours for $195 million.
