Metro: Security Cameras Installed On Board Buses To Increase Passenger Safety
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — In response to the several stabbings on board Metro buses in the LA area, security cameras are being installed on board as part of increased security efforts for passenger safety, officials said.
According to Metro, passengers on board will notice two video monitors, which broadcast a live feed from security cameras also installed inside the buses.
One monitor displays the main bus area, while the other will show passengers boarding the bus.
According to the Sheriff's Department, six similar attacks happened between June 16-24, all non-life threatening injuries.
By taking preventative action, Metro hopes to defer any future attacks through these security systems.
"The idea is to instill a bit of caution among passengers and potential troublemakers by reminding them that buses have security cameras," said Metro quoted their CEO Arty Leahy stating during his report to the board last week.
At this time, Metro reports that monitors are being installed in some of their new buses which they recently purchased. It is unclear when these new buses will begin circulation.
According to officials, older buses in service may also have these monitors and security cameras installed at a later date.
