#MeToo Movement Hits The Streets Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — Survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault and sexual abuse joined in a #MeToo march and rally on Sunday in Hollywood.

The demonstration began at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue with a march to CNN headquarters on Sunset Boulevard.

The Hollywood sexual harassment scandal has put a spotlight on the hashtag #MeToo movement on social media.

The hashtag #MeToo started about ten years ago as a way to provide support for young victims of sexual assault.

The group "Take Back the Workplace" also marched.

Amid recent allegations in Hollywood against Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and others, the movement has now grown exponentially on social media.

"For every Harvey Weinstein, there's a hundred more men in the neighborhood who are doing the exact same thing," #MeToo founder Tarana Burke said. "The conversation around harassment in Hollywood will broaden to include other industries if we force it to."

CBS2's Adrianna Weingold spoke to several marchers.

"I think that sexism is ingrained in society," said Ashley Woods, "And we're still finding out how damaging that is. And I think we really need to make changes to raise a society where women are treated equally."

Sexual harassment, assault and rape are, of course, not just a Hollywood problem.

State Senator Connie Leyva (D - Chino) says she is introducing legislation that would make secret agreements and Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA) illegal.

"It's 2017," she said, "and women should not go to work and be sexually harassed, assaulted or even raped. So we are here today to say enough is enough. And we're done."
