Metal Shavings Fire In Carson Forces Nearby Businesses To Evacuate
CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Evacuations were ordered Tuesday due to a fire burning in a commercial building in the Carson area, fire officials said.
About 50 firefighters and a hazardous-materials team were sent to the 200 block of East Gardena Boulevard about 10:30 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Randall Wright.
The fire, which was extinguished in a little more than two hours, originated in piles of metal shavings and spread to a structure.
Fire officials took to Twitter to urge residents to avoid the area.
About 100 people in businesses within one block of the fire were ordered to evacuate as a precaution. Evacuations were lifted shortly after 12:30 p.m.
No injuries were immediately reported.
