Memo Raises Questions Over Legality Of Short-Term Home Rental Service
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – A private service that allows residents to rent out their apartments or homes for short-term stays may be breaking the law in Los Angeles, according to reports.
KNX 1070's Jan Stevens reports a city zoning memo could outline certain neighborhoods in which the Airbnb service may soon be prohibited from operating.
According to the memo, residents in who live in what officials with the Department of City Planning classify as strictly residential neighborhoods could be prohibited from renting out their apartments or homes for fewer than 30 days.
However, it was not immediately clear whether and how city officials would enforce any existing laws that could threaten the rise of the San Francisco-based Airbnb service, which has been reportedly valued at $10 billion and is extremely popular among renters, according to the Daily Breeze.

Since last October, residents in the Glenwood community of Glendale filed complaints about at least six separate gatherings after neighbors complained of beer bottles in the street. The complaint came on the heels of an Airbnb rental listing for an approximately 4,000-square-foot home described as "party central."
The listing was eventually taken down in response to the complaints.
