Murder Suspect Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound After Hours-Long Standoff In Koreatown

KOREATOWN (CBSLA.com) — A man wanted in connection with a woman's murder died Tuesday night after an hours-long standoff with police at a Koreatown apartment.

The man, who police believe fatally shot a woman on May 9, was holed up since 2 p.m. in the 200 block of Kenmore Avenue, near Beverly Boulevard.

Nearby residents were evacuated.

Another man was detained shortly after the standoff began after he ran out of the apartment and told police two other men were inside.

Around 5 p.m., police took a second man out of the apartment in handcuffs who said he was an acquaintance of the suspect and confirmed that the suspect was in the apartment and was armed.

The suspect was in contact with officers by phone, and the FBI assisted with negotiations.

A police robot entered the apartment to discover the suspect had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
