It happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the parking garage of an apartment building on South Berendo Street near Seventh Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man wounded from a gunshot and a woman who had been stabbed, according to Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the woman did not know the man who stabbed her. He was later killed by her boyfriend.

Joel Layogin lives across the street and took some pictures of the scene. "Whole place was surrounded by cops. The block was locked down," he said.

He watched as the woman's boyfriend was arrested and the stabbing suspect was brought out on a gurney. He later died at a hospital.

Detectives said the woman is expected to recover from her stab wounds. They will question her and her boyfriend to find out exactly what happened.

Layogin said: "I always hear loud ruckus all the time. But hearing a gunshot is not normal. But apparently, tonight, it happened."
