Man Shot In The Back At South Los Angeles ATM

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man has been taken to a hospital after being shot in the back in South Los Angeles.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Monday at Gage Avenue and Avalon Boulevard, an area which has since been blocked off.

The Los Angeles Police Department says the victim, who is in his 40s, was conscious and breathing.

The LAPD confirms that the victim was shot at an ATM at a Bank of America branch in the area.

"It appears that a verbal altercation occurred that escalated into the shooting. It doesn't appear at this time anybody is targeting people at the ATM machines," LAPD detective Tommy Thompson said.

Thompson said police were reviewing the security cameras nearby and were talking with several witnesses.

The LAPD reports that an arrest had been made as of 9:30 p.m.

A motive for the shooting remains unknown.

An investigation is underway.
