1 dead after possible road rage incident turns to shooting in Marina del Rey

A man was fatally shot Monday in the Marina Del Rey area, and authorities are investigating if the incident stemmed from road rage.

The scene unfolded at around 12:15 p.m. on Lincoln Boulevard near the 90 Freeway, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The victim, a man in his 20s, died at the scene of the shooting after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

His identity has been withheld due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The unidentified victim was in a vehicle, and the suspect fled in another vehicle, according to reports from the scene.

"It does appear at this time that this incident could have a road rage nexus," LAPD Capt. Michael Applegate told reporters at the scene.

As they work to piece together what led to the fatal incident, detectives are hoping to draw information from witnesses and nearby surveillance camera footage.

So far, they've learned that the two drivers involved both exited their vehicles upon stopping at the stoplight, at which point one pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The suspect fled from the scene in a dark-colored Kia sedan, heading north on Lincoln Boulevard.

The westbound 90 Freeway was closed in the area while an investigation was conducted.
