Man, 21, dies after being shot by police in Pacoima
A man is dead after being shot by police in Pacoima on Tuesday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers with one of the agency's gang units pulled over a driver in a black BMW sedan for an alleged traffic violation near Carl Street and Lehigh Avenue around 8:50 p.m., according to LAPD. The front seat passenger, 21-year-old Alexander Aguilar-0Larios, allegedly got out of the car while armed with a gun and ran from the officers.
Officers ran after him, and sometime during that foot chase, shots were fired, LAPD officials said. The night of the shooting, police said that at some point after the officers' arrival, one of them put out a call for help and then the shooting occurred.
The man was shot and taken into custody, police said.
Before paramedics arrived, the officers performed life-saving measures on him, according to LAPD. Then he was driven away in an ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
LAPD said a 9mm gun was recovered from the scene and booked as evidence.
Due to a large crowd gathering in the area, LAPD requested additional units to assist as they investigated the matter.
Police must still go through body cam footage and interview multiple witnesses to investigate further.
No one else was injured.
