Man, 62, Fatally Stabbed On Tustin Street, Police Searching For Suspect
TUSTIN (CBSLA) — Police were searching Tuesday for the person who fatally stabbed a man in Tustin Monday night.
The man, identified as 62-year-old David Nakaki, was found bleeding on the road by a good Samaritan who stopped to help after he saw other cars swerving to avoid him. Nakaki was taken to a hospital where he later died.
According to neighbors, Nakaki lived in the condominiums around the corner from where he was found on Prospect Avenue Monday night.
The area, known as the loop, was said to be a popular walking route where Nakaki might have been exercising before 9 p.m. when he was attacked by someone with a knife.
Tustin police have been talking to neighbors and gathering video from home surveillance cameras and security systems near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Norwood Park Place hoping to figure out what happened.
"They just wanted to know if we knew him so that we could help them figure out his patterns of walking," Angelea Buterbaugh, a neighbor said.
Buterbaugh, who lives in the same complex, said she was concerned for her family knowing that the suspect is still on the loose.
"He could have been followed," Lt. Andy Birozy, with the Tustin Police Department, said. "It could have been a robbery attempt, someone could have followed him; all of the possibilities are out there."
Residents in the area said they have had no safety problems in the area except for the occasional issue with a group of homeless people who live behind a shuttered grocery store.
