Man Faces Attempted Murder, Sexual Assault Charges In Attack On Woman In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man was charged with attempted murder and sexual assault Tuesday in connection with the attack of an 80-year-old woman in Hollywood.

Marcus Datwione Peete, 33, is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday on one count each of attempted murder, assault, sexual penetration by a foreign object and first-degree burglary, person present, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

He is being held without bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's jail records.

Prosecutors say when the victim answered her front door in the 1700 block of North Ivar Avenue on June 18, Peete forced himself inside, pushing the woman into her bedroom and beating her.

Peete allegedly sexually assaulted the woman as she fought back, punched her several times, then fled on foot. The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive the attack.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Peete was arrested on June 19 near Crenshaw and Olympic boulevards. If convicted as charged, Peete faces up to life in prison.
