Man dies in violent solo-car crash on I-215 in Riverside

CBS News Los Angeles

A man was killed after he apparently lost control of his car on the I-215 Freeway in Riverside on Sunday morning, according to police.

It happened at around 11 a.m. on northbound lanes near the transition ramp from the northbound SR-60, said California Highway Patrol officers.

The victim, identified as a 35-year-old Riverside man, was behind the wheel of an Infiniti Q50 when he "veered abruptly to the right and lost control."

"The Infiniti continued to the right, colliding into a telephone pole and a retaining wall before overturning onto the roadway," police said.

No other cars were involved in the crash, which sent the man to a nearby hospital where he later died.

CHP officers closed the transition road for nearly three hours as their investigation continued and the wreckage was cleared from the road.

Anyone who may know more is asked to contact CHP at (951) 324-7210.
