Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Kidnapping Woman, Fatally Stabbing Man In Santa Ana
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a man to death and kidnapped his ex-girlfriend will be arraigned Tuesday in Santa Ana.
According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Teodoro Bernal Nunez, of Los Angeles, has been charged with one felony count each of murder, domestic battery causing injury with a prior conviction of domestic battery causing injury and kidnapping.
Nunez also faces a misdemeanor count of violation of a protective order, and sentencing enhancements for personal use of a deadly weapon and great bodily injury involved domestic violence.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Nunez allegedly used a 12-inch knife to stab Omar Castillo, 27, once in the chest outside of a home located in the 1200 block of South Oak Street, according to police.
He is accused of using the same knife to stab his ex-girlfriend once in the abdomen and forcing her into his SUV before fleeing from the scene.
A short while later, Nunez was pulled over in Brea for a traffic violation near the intersection of Associated Road and Birch Street. Police saw the woman bleeding in the car and subsequently arrested Nunez.
Paramedics transported the woman to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment of her stab wound.
Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors are expected to request for Nunez to be held without bail during the arraignment.
If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of 41 years and four months to life in state prison.
