Man Arrested After Long Beach Motel Standoff

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — SWAT officers took a man into custody Sunday at the end of a five-hour standoff at a motel on Pacific Coast Highway, authorities said.

Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson said officers were sent to the Pool Side Motel around 10:40 a.m. after receiving a call from the suspect, who initially claimed he was being held captive by someone with a gun. The man later told officers he was actually alone, and in possession of a weapon, but refused to surrender.

In response, a SWAT team was called to assist in the barricade situation.

Officers arrested the man, whose name has not been released, at 3:40 p.m., Johnson said. The suspect will be booked on suspicion of resisting arrest  or disobeying police commands as well as making a false police report.
