Man arrested in connection with family member's death in Westminster

CBS News Los Angeles

A man was arrested in connection with the death of a relative at her Westminster home over the weekend, according to police.

Officers were called to the 8200 b lock of 19th Street at around 9:45 p.m. on Friday evening in order to conduct a welfare check after the victim was not heard from in several days, according to a statement from the Westminster Police Department.

"During the welfare check, the female was located deceased," the statement said. "Evidence on scene indicated that her death was the result of a homicide."

Investigators serving a search warrant at the home say that they discovered more evidence and that a person of interest was detained "almost immediately" and brought to a police station.

They say that the suspect, 38-year-old Irving Mondragon, was arrested on suspicion of murder. It's unclear how he and the victim are related.

Detectives have not relayed details on how the woman was killed or a motive in the incident.

Anyone who may know more is asked to contact WPD at (714) 548-3783.
