CBS News Los Angeles

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sparking a fire outside of a Metrolink facility in San Bernardino, authorities say.

On Thursday, deputies from the Transit Operations Division - Metrolink Detail were dispatched to the scene of a fire at the Arrow Maintenance Facility, which is located in the 900 block of Third Street, according to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"Metrolink employees reported a male suspect started a fire near the fence line of the property and immediately fled the scene," the statement said.

The blaze, which spread quickly, caused more than$100,000 worth of damage to equipment inside of the facility, deputies said.

Investigators were able to find evidence that led to them identifying 39-year-old San Bernardino man Charles Banks as the suspect. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of arson and is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact SBSD at (909) 387-3500.
