Man arrested for allegedly intentional hit-and-run in Beaumont

CBS News Los Angeles

Authorities have arrested a man for what they say was an allegedly intentional hit-and-run in Beaumont earlier this week.

The incident happened at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the 400 block of E. First Street, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

Investigators say that the suspect, who they still have not yet identified, was arrested at a later time after he was involved in an unrelated collision. Despite this, he is now hospitalized because of injuries suffered in that crash, police said.

"The driver of a pickup truck used it to strike the victim, running over the male subject," police said in a statement. "The driver of the pickup fled the area before the arrival of law enforcement."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics. He has not yet been identified.

Just 30 minutes after the hit-and-run, officers were alerted of a crash in the unincorporated area of Cabazon that may have involved the pickup truck involved in the earlier fatality.

They arrived a short time later and arrested the suspect without further incident.

The nature of his injuries remains unclear.

Investigators are working to determine a motive for the alleged vehicular homicide.

Anyone who may know more is asked to contact BPD at (951) 572-3910.
