Long Beach police arrest two armed robbery suspects tied to string of incidents

CBS News Los Angeles

Long Beach police on Saturday announced that they arrested two suspects who are allegedly linked to multiple armed robberies in the area.

According to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department, the two men were arrested after an armed robbery that happened on Monday in the 6500 block of Cherry Avenue.

Officers saw the suspect car in the area, which led to a brief pursuit that happened when the driver failed to pull over. The chase came to a sudden end when they crashed into a curb and came to a stop.

Both men, since identified as 49-year-old Long Beach man James Pierce and 29-year-old Maywood man Jose Angel Rios Pinedo, were arrested at the scene. Officers claim to have discovered a firearm and some evidence that connected them to the robbery.

Pierce was booked on suspicion or robbery, threatening crime with intent to terrorize, firearms charges and reckless driver, Long Beach police said.

After investigators looked into similar incidents that happened in 2023 and 2024, they determined that Pinedo was allegedly responsible for at least five other robberies in Long Beach. They served a search warrant at his home and say that evidence connecting him to additional incidents was located.

No further information was provided. Anyone who knows more is asked to contact LBPD at (562) 570-7464.
