Local Stores Offer Deals Ahead Of Small Business Saturday

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Big chains may be offering rock-bottom deals to entice shoppers on Black Friday but some locally owned stores were also slashing prices ahead of Small Business Saturday.

The early jump on deals at locally owned businesses drew in Carl Wright. The 28-year-old who works in consumer electronics avoided the malls Friday and was shopping in local stores in San Diego, saying he preferred to support the local economy.

Wright was visiting from Long Beach and wanted to buy something for his friends that had a story behind it. He bought locally made candles at Pigment, a home goods store owned by a San Diego couple.

Pigment offered 20 percent off all of the store's goods on Friday and was going to offer up to 50 percent off on Saturday when Americans are asked to shop small businesses.
