Local Protesters Hold Candlelight Vigil For Ezell Ford

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Demonstrators took to the streets for a third night Friday, protesting the police killings of three black men — two high-profile cases sparking outrage nationally, and the local death of Ezell Ford.

CBS2's Juan Fernandez talked to protesters who told him Friday night that this is the beginning of more demonstrations to come. They said what's going around the country is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, and it even hits home.

A day-long march that began Friday at Los Angeles Police Department headquarters ended in a candlelight vigil at the corner of Broadway and 65th Street in South LA. That's where Ford died after being shot by LAPD officers during a scuffle in August.

Protesters say Ford's death, as well as those of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, points to a national problem of police brutality against minorities.

In New York a grand jury on Wednesday declined to indict a white police officer who had held Garner in a choke-hold on a sidewalk before the man's July death. The protests also follow a St. Louis County, Mo., grand jury decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, who is white, in the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of Brown.
