LeBron James' Brentwood Home Vandalized With Racial Slur
BRENTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police were investigating a possible hate crime at the Brentwood home of LeBron James after a racial slur was spray-painted on a gate outside of his house.
Officers responded around 6:45 a.m. to the home on the 200 block of Rockingham Avenue and found the property's front gate vandalized, according to LAPD Media Relations.
The graffiti included an "N-word" reference and has since been covered up, according to police.
CBS2/KCAL9's Dave Lopez reports the vandalism was first reported by a security guard patrolling the neighborhood to a man in charge of taking care of James' property. That man reported the incident to police and ordered the gate immediately painted.
Police are looking at security footage of the neighborhood in hopes of identifying a suspect.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star was not at home at the time of the incident as the team gets set to take on the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, which begin Thursday night in Oakland.
James told told reporters at an NBA Finals news conference in Northern California that the vandalism shows that racism "will always be a part of the world."
"You know, hate in America, especially for African-Americans, is living every day," James said, adding that his family was not harmed and "that's the most important."
