Man Arrested After Jumping Fence At LAX, Reportedly Doing Push-Ups On Tarmac
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) - Police arrested a man Monday after he allegedly jumped a fence at Los Angeles International Airport and ran onto a runway.
The unidentified man was seen scaling a security barrier near Sepulveda Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue near the airport just before 1:30 p.m., LAX Airport police spokesman Rob Pedredon.
He was seen running near a Delta Airlines jet, where airport police were able to take him into custody.
Passengers on nearby aircraft shared images of the arrest on social media, with one passenger, Chad Ridgely, saying the suspect "started doing push-ups" on the runway.
The view from our @Delta flight at LAX. A guy ran onto the runway and started doing push-ups. Swiftly apprehended by @LAAirportPD before he could transition to sprints. @flyLAXairport #LAXPD pic.twitter.com/otYpZDO9cT

Right now sitting on a plane that was readying for takeoff.
Someone ran onto the tarmac and apparently tried to stop / jump onto our plane.

There was no word on whether the suspect was armed or what his motive may have been.
A search of the airport perimeter was concluded soon afterward and normal airport operations resumed by 2 p.m., Pedregon said.
Following interviews with airport police and the FBI, the man was expected to be booked on suspicion of trespassing and possibly other offenses, according to Pedregon.
A mental health evaluation was also likely, Pedregon said.
