LAX Flight Grounded After Passenger Discovers 'Al Quida' Wi-Fi Hotspot
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Passengers on an American Airlines flight from LAX to London were en route to their destination Monday after their jet was grounded after a customer expressed concern over a Wi-Fi network name.
KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports the flight was turned back to the gate late Sunday night after a passenger logged on to his computer and found a hotspot labeled "Al Quida Free Terror Nettwork".
The incident was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. after an attendant on Flight AA136 notified the pilot of the Wi-Fi hotspot name, according to LAX Police.
The jet was turned around on the tarmac and returned back to the gate, police said.
Passengers disembarked the flight and crews conducted a search of the plane, but there were no arrests made, according to police.
Police cleared the scene around 10:45 p.m. after investigators said "no crime was committed and no further action will be taken," The Associated Press reported.
An American Airlines spokesperson said the flight departed from LAX at 1 p.m.
