LAUSD Wins $13 Million Grant To Expose Students To College

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Unified School District has won a $13 million federal grant to expose students from sixth grade and up to college.

City News Service reports the grant announced Tuesday will target 2,000 students over the next seven years.

The money will provide students at six schools with tutoring, counseling, peer mentoring, information about financial aid and testing, campus visits and other services.

Superintendent John Deasy says the students will also be tracked through high school graduation and their first year of college.

It is the second such grant to LAUSD. The first one awarded in 2011 provided $21 million to help 4,000 high-needs students.
