LAPD Announces $50K Reward In Sylmar Road Rage Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday announced a $50,000 reward in hopes it will help them solve the road rage murder of a 35-year-old man.

"Detectives have exhausted what few leads they had in this case," Lt. Paul Vernon said.

Sergio Sanchez was fatally shot on March 14 while driving on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Sylmar, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Sanchez, who worked as a mechanic, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in his black Mitsubishi Eclipse on the Roxford Street off ramp. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"Preliminary evidence tends to show this is a case of road rage," Lt. Vernon said. "Bullet impacts and glass fragments lead us to think the shooter fired at the victim from the victim's side of the car."

"Sergio was there for so many people while he was alive, now he needs someone to step up for him in death," Councilman Felipe Fuentes, who represents Sylmar, said. "Sergio was a hardworking man, merely driving home after his shift that fateful night.  Whoever shot him should face justice."

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in the murder should contact LAPD Mission Division Detective Gretchen Shultz at (818)838-9951.
