LAPD Officers Raise Money To Help Volunteering Grandmother Whose Purse Was Stolen

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two Los Angeles police officers went above and beyond the call of duty for a 93-year-old grandmother whose purse was stolen during a recent birthday celebration.

The theft happened Nov. 7 at a local restaurant, where the 93-year-old woman had hung her purse from her chair, Los Angeles Police Department officials said. The woman and her family looked through the area for her purse and its contents without luck.

When Capt. Maureen Ryan and Senior Lead Officer Duc Dao of the LAPD Topanga Area station heard about the theft, they contacted the victim's granddaughter to help replace some of the stolen items.

The officers set up a GoFundMe account Nov. 11, raising more than $1,200 for the woman.
