LAPD, Local Family-Owned Business Help Woman In Need During 'Our Season Of Giving'

JEFFERSON PARK (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Police Department and a local family-owned business gave back Wednesday to a woman in need.

LAPD Officer John Biondo and his partner first met Bette Epps during a routine visit at her home in the 2300 block of 30th Street.

"One of those visits, myself and my partner noticed that her house was very very cold," Biondo said.

He then contacted LR Services Plumbing and offered to pay for her home repairs.

"I just decided to do it for free," LR Services Owner Leonard Redway said. "Why not give to Miss Epps? She's deserving. She's been a resident in this community a very long time."

As part of LR Services' "Our Season of Giving" campaign, Epps' home received a replacement for her faulty heating system and a new hot water heater, washer and dryer free of charge.

"I don't have the words to express myself," Epps said. "I can't tell you how grateful I am."

The campaign is the company's way of giving back to the community by providing free services to needy recipients that are chosen through their social media sites.
