CBS News Los Angeles

A shooting suspect led police on a chase through the San Fernando Valley Thursday night.

The Los Angeles Police Department started the pursuit and believed the suspect was armed. Investigators said the suspect shot at two people near Echo Park. It's unclear if anyone was wounded.

The suspect started on the US-101 Freeway near Hollywood and continued north. She eventually merged onto the CA-170 Freeway and continued heading north through North Hollywood and the rest of the San Fernando Valley.

She exited the freeway in Sun Valley and continued to slowly evade police. After looping around the neighborhood, she entered the I-5 Freeway north.

The LAPD gave up the pursuit to the California Highway Patrol as the woman drove through Newhall. With an empty freeway, and officer used a spike strip that pierced the driver's tires.

The suspect slowed down to a snail's pace before coming to a complete stop on the right shoulder.

After a brief standoff, the woman stepped out of the minivan with her dog wrapped in her left arm. She went back inside the van before coming out with both of her hands up.
