Lakers HOF, Ex-Clipper GM Elgin Baylor: Now They Know What Donald Sterling Is Like
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) - For the first time, Lakers Hall of Famer and ex-Clippers GM Elgin Baylor speaks out about his former boss Donald Sterling.
Baylor, who worked for Sterling for 22 years and even sued him for discrimination, told CNN's Anderson Cooper that he is sure Sterling is a racist.
"Of course he is," Baylor told Cooper in an exclusive interview on CNN. "There's no doubt in my mind now."
After Baylor heard the racist remarks that were published on TMZ's website, he said he felt justified even though he lost the suit.
Baylor, in 2009, sued the Clippers for wrongful termination, accusing Sterling and the Clippers of racism and ageism.
"Justice has been served," he said. "Now they know what Donald is like, and the things I said before about Donald are absolutely true."
The NBA is in the process in trying to get Sterling to sell although his wife Shelly says she is entitled to maintain ownership of the team.
The league had no comment, but their advisory and finance committee met again Wednesday to review the search for a new CEO of the Clippers.
"The Advisory/Finance Committee met again today via conference call," the NBA said in a statement. "The Committee reviewed the status of the search for a new CEO of the Los Angeles Clippers, was updated on meetings held this week between NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum and Clippers employees, and addressed the process and timing regarding the termination of Mr. Sterling's ownership of the team. The Committee will reconvene next week."
