LA Jail Locked Down After Employee Reports Lost Weapon

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County jail was on lockdown for five and a half hours after an employee lost their weapon.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says Twin Towers Correctional Facility was locked down at 4 a.m. Friday after a jail employee reported the weapon missing.

Nishida says surveillance video was reviewed and the inmates searched.

Nishida says the jail was taken off lockdown at 9:30 a.m. after officials were confident that no inmate had a weapon.

Nishida would not comment on whether the jail employee found the weapon. She says the incident is being investigated.
