LA County Sheriff's Deputy Admits To Rape, Bribery Charges

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy pleaded no contest Thursday to rape and bribery charges, Los Angeles County District Attorney's officials said.

Jose Rigoberto Sanchez, 29, entered his no contest plea to one count each of rape under color of authority and soliciting a bribe.

Prosecutors say Sanchez pulled over a 24-year-old female driver with an outstanding warrant on Sept. 22, 2010 and offered to not arrest her if she had sex with him. He then drove away with the victim into the desert, where he raped her, Deputy District Attorney Rosa Alarcon said.

Two nights later, he pulled over a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of DUI and solicited a bribe in the form of sexual activity, officials said.

Sanchez was ordered to return to court on April 4 and faces a sentence of eight years and eight months in prison. He must also register as a sex offender, District Attorney's officials said.
