Judge Hands Down 3 Life Sentences To Man Convicted In Faria Beach Triple Murder

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A man was sentenced Friday to three consecutive life sentences for the murders of a Ventura County couple and their unborn son.

Joshua Packer, 24, was arrested in April 2010 after DNA linked him to the May 2009 stabbing deaths of Brock and Davina Husted, who was six months pregnant at the time.

"You are evil. You are murderer, a rapist and a baby killer," Davina Husted's cousin, Kathy Lampreaht, said during sentencing.

Police said Packer entered the Husted's Faria Beach home to committ a robbery, but instead sexually assaulted and killed the couple while their two other children were in the house.

"I never believed there was evil in this world until the night of May 20, 2009 when my father and pregnant mother were brutally stabbed over and over again," Isabelle Husted said.

According to an arrest affidavit, the Husted's 9-year-old son ran to get cash from his mother's purse to appease Packer, but when he returned, the man was attacking his parents with a kitchen knife in the bedroom.

Autopsies showed Brock Husted was stabbed more than 20 times and his wife was stabbed 30 times.

The boy later woke his 11-year-old sister and together, they checked on their parents' bodies. The children then locked the bedroom door and escaped through a window to a neighbor's home.
